Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets met with Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney in Tallinn on 26 May. The discussion focused on the EU sanctions against Russia, the increase in defense and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and the reconstruction of Ukraine.
In addition to the situation in Ukraine, the foreign ministers also discussed EU-UK relations and the importance of ensuring the integrity of the common market. The aim of the Northern Ireland Protocol is to avoid, after Brexit, strict border controls between Ireland and Northern Ireland and to allow the economy to function and the people to move smoothly on the island. At the same time, the agreement seeks to protect the EU’s internal market.
