During the second world war, the 300 strong population of Ruhnu Island off Estonia had to desert their island due to occupation by the Soviet Army. The people were scattered all over Sweden, and with them went their traditions, their stories, their music and their songs. Their culture was almost lost, but, due to the research of our visiting storyteller and musicians from Estonia, the culture of Ruhnu is now alive and well and is growing in strength.
The concert will be held on February 16th at 8pm in the Blasket Island Centre, a centre dedicated to preserving the culture of the Blasket Islands in west Kerry.
Musicians:
Karoliina Kreintaal – violin, viola, vocals
Lee Taul – violin, vocals
Kairi Leivo – storyteller, vocals
